Think you will have to sand the table top until the mark disappears. How do i get a mark from a hair product off my coffee table. the mark is alcohol based.table not varished?
If there has been a some sorta chemical staining of the wood, I don't think sanding is the answer, especially in a specie like mahogany which is very porously grained. You would have to sand it down over 1/8'; to get rid of the mark
Chances are there is some sort of finish on the table, be it wax or oil or something, you have to determine this first (it would be helpful to know what color the offending mark is). The remove that finish, then reverse the chemical stain with another chemical (oxalic(sp?) acid come to mind). Whatever process is used to remove the mark will, more than likely, change the tone of the wood in that area. So the repair will have to be ';toned up'; to match the rest of the table top, then the finish re-applied/repaired in that area. What ever course of action you decide to take be careful and take your time, you could end up making a bad situation worse.
Hope the helps . . . .
Sand it down, then varnish it if needed.
That sucks. Well the alcohol is evaporated by now. And the stain may be very deep because of no varnish, sooo, you might try bleaching the area. Don't know that much about it but search the web. Sanding may not be option if stain is very deep. That sucks, I love mahogony. Good luck.
